It is official

I know that after 2 positive home pregnancy tests, I should have "belieived" that I was pregnant. But hearing the doctor confirm it makes it truly official. Today I had a doctors appointment in the morning. It was not with my normal MD as she was on vacation all week. Instead it was with another doctor who I actuall really liked! SHe was young and kind of funky/hippy like. None of tha treally matters I guess, but I have had my share of yucky docotrs so I was glad to not have someone I did not like for an appointment that should be exciting.

So the doctor started off by asking me how I knew I was pregnant. I told her I had 2 positive HPTs and that my period was due Saturday, and it was still not here. She smiled... then said, "And you were trying right." I thought that was a given but you never know. She told me a few little facts about not taking any new medication without calling my docotr first and just about the only thing I could take without calling was Tylenol (Ibuprofen is a big no no). She stepped out of the exam room for am oment to go grab some paperwork and then came right back. She said to me, "I would be a bad doctor if I did not warn you that miscarraige is a pssibility. 1 in 4 pregancies lead to one... not that your will." At that exact moment, I bursted out into tears. The poor doctor was looking around for tissue and could not find any. She finally opened up one of the cabinets and pulled out a clean patient gown for me to use to wipe my eyes etc. She then said, "Well I think there is no need for the pregnancy test. You are definitely pregnant."

Well at least that made the tears stop. I cleaned up and walked do to the phlebotomist to have my blood drawn. As a side note, if you are not a patient at the Stanford Medical Center, you should be, just to meet this guy. He is different. His little phlebotomy office is all desked out in posters and other fun stuff. He has music blasting and the air conditioning (it was coooold in there). So anyway, I have had my blood drawn by him before so I knew what to expect. He is great! (Practically) no pain at all and I was in and out of there in 30 seconds. No exaggeration.

Once I was driving back to work, I realized I never asked how I would receive the test results. I assumed someone would call me in a day or so and if I did not hear anything, I would call them.

Hours later, I left work for the day to get my hair cut. This appointment was originally for a cut AND color but one of the first things I read was that you should not color your hair in your first trimester. Too may chemicals in that hair dye and I do not want to risk the proper development of my baby all due to vanity. So my greys will have to be a more permanent fixture in the days to come. I arrived a little bit early for the appointment and say in the lobby waiting. My phone rang, showing a blocked called. If you do not already know, I rarely answer calls where the number is blocked... so I just let it ring. Once the voicemail came, I caleld to listen to it. It was the doctor! She left the funniest message saying, "Hi Leslee. I am calling to let you know that the test results are positive. (long pause) I will give more details as I am not sure who else hears these messages. But positive is good news."

I thought that was so cute! She did not want to give any info away so instead she left a partial message. It is humerous because usually when a test comes back positive, it is not good news. SO she had to go back and clarify by saying it was good news.

So that's it! It is official. I am pregnant.

The next steps were to find an OB. THe docotor I met with in the morning gave me some recommendations. I did my research on line and decided to call one office for an appointment. It is crazy that they do not see pregnant women until 9 weeks. I guess this is standard practice but goodness...can't a lot happen in 9 week? Regardless, I have my 1st appointment on New Year's Eve (of all times) at 8:30 AM. I am so excited to hear what she has to say and learn all about this little creature inside me.
